Where in the world?

5 Aug

So, I promised I would not start my beauty blog unless I could post new content at LEAST twice per week. Well, that failed.

Work has been SO busy and has taken over my life. I just want to update you all super fast and let you know that I plan on putting more time into my blog. I might possibly be switching it over to blogspot as it might be easier- not sure yet.

Just letting you know I am alive still!!! Miss you all!!!

Sex and the City 2 Premiere (New York)

28 May

I don’t know about you but I have been counting down the days until the premiere of Sex and the City 2 for well, let’s just say quite a while now. I am going to be honest with you- I never watch the series- BUT, I still consider myself a HUGE fan. I loved the first movie and I’m really hoping for a third.

The New York City premiere was May 24, 2010 at Radio City Music Hall and I must say that I am LOVING the fashion! I am a big fan of neons/brights (which 50% of the main cast was wearing!)

Sex and the City 2 Premiere: New York City 05/24/10

*image from ew.com

First off, they all look amazing don’t you think? I am especially loving Carrie (far left) and Charlotte (second from the right) If you don’t know who is who though, I’m not really sure why you are reading this article, lol. *Note: I will be referring to the cast by their character names*

Let’s break down the outfits (from left to right for those of you who have been living under a rock!):

Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker)

Looked amazing in a neon yellow Valentino dress that was daring but definitely not skanky.  I almost didn’t recognize her! I think she looks great though from head to toe. She also looks a bit tanned? The only thing I wasn’t a big fan of were the heels (by Salvatore Ferragamo). While I like the colour and style, I found that they made her feet look ridiculously large. What do you think?

*image from bagthatsyle

Samantha Jones (Kim Cattrall)

My least favourite of the bunch (and I usually LOVE what she wears.)  It was a slinky Naeem Khan dress that was covered in a daisy like print. I guess up close (I wouldn’t know as I wasn’t there) it was very un-elegant. I think the colour is a bit washed out as well. Are you digging this?

Charlotte York (Kristin Davis)

Can I please have Carrie’s dress but in Charlotte’s colour? The hot neon electrifying pink makes me so…. excited. It’s young, it’s fresh, it’s super cool and she looks great! Even better was the fact that it was a vintage Jean Dresses gown! It fit her body and personality perfectly!

Miranda Hobbes (Cynthia Nixon)

Where to start? It was pretty, but it was plain. What happened to the fierce (did I just type that word?) and fiery red numbers? Usually it’s Miranda standing out on the carpet. I think she played it too safe in this Carolina Herrera gown.  The photo looks pretty plain Jane to me, although I have been reading that up close it was a very exquisite dress.

The After Party

*image from fabsugar

The loud ladies in neon opted for a change of wardrobe for the afterparty. Could the vintage dress have been too tight and too hard to walk in for Charlotte? Possibly.  What about SJP? I loved her Valentino dress- it deserved much more than the 15 minutes of fame it got. Both ladies ended up changing into more flirty after party approved dresses. Carrie slipped into a beautiful sleeved dress with black lace by Elie Saab (that was right off the runway from her 2010 Fall collection!) Might I point out the super hot platform sandals from Kasia’s 2010 collection! (HAWT!) Charlotte ended up changing into a vintage Pierre Balmain Couture dress for the after party. What do you think? Who did the best outfit change? Was it the right thing to do?

I am super sad that I couldn’t be there. I am also bummed that I didn’t grab my tickets (for the movie) early enough. At my local theatre (which offers VIP reserved seating service) all of the shows were (basically) sold out until Monday. So I opted for Tuesday tickets (the money saver in me- 50% less on Tuesday’s!) I will do a mini (non-spoiler) review after I see it. I will leave you with some SATC fashions from the New York premiere! Enjoy! xo.

Diet Coke Nail Polish & Designer Bottles!

24 May

That’s right! You are reading that correctly! In the UK, Diet Coke has teamed up with Nails, Inc. to release 4 shades of nail polish inspired by the cities of London, New York, Paris & Milan called the Diet Coke City Collection. The nail lacquer comes free at select Boots stores in the UK between May 5 and June 20 with the purchase of 2- 500 ml bottles. I am super bummed when I found out that it was only in the UK 😦 Although, I have heard that you will be able to buy the bottles on Asos soon! (They have an ongoing partnership with Diet Coke.)

From left to right: “London” is the nude polish- to depict the posh fashion sense of the Brits, “Paris” is the deep purple and is supposed to depict the sunset over the Eiffel Tower. “New York” is a bright fuchsia (for the city that never sleeps) and “Milan” is a fiery Italian red.

Coca Cola has made quite the advance into the fashion world recently not only with the nail polish but also with it’s advertorials for their Coca Cola Light brand (in the UK.)

Italian fashion designers Donatella Versace, Alberta Ferretti, Anna Molinari for Blumarine, Veronica Etro, Silvia Venturini for Fendi, Consuelo Castiglioni for Marni, Angela Missoni and Rossella Jardini for Moschino, have teamed with Coca Cola for fund raising campaign in support of the victims of the earthquake in Abruzzo, Italy.

Check them out below!

Karl Lagerfield also designed a limited edition Coca Cola Light bottle (in the UK) He also ran a print ad:

I love Coca Cola! I think this is super cool (the nail polish and the designer bottles) I am super bummed that these are limited to the UK. I will definitely be trying to grab some of that laquer on Asos though! What do you think? Depending on the price point would you buy it? I know the colours aren’t anything new and exciting, but being a Coca Cola fan (and nail polish addict) it will go nicely in both of my collections 🙂

Superstore Makeup Haul & Amazing Deals!

23 May

Hello everyone! I thought I would share with you some deals I got at The Real Canadian Superstore last weekend! They had lots of everything (at the London, Ontario Oxford @ Gammage St. SS.) so if you are wanting in on some of these deals you should still be able to get them! Make sure to check you local store as well (you never know!)

All of the deals were an additional 50% off the lowest price (make sure to use their scanner as you can’t go by what’s written on the tag!) I found that a lot of the items were lower then it said!!!! (Score!) There are also coupons floating around for a couple of the items, so you can ALMOST get them for FREE!!!!!!!

L’Oreal Ever Strong/Ever Pure Hair Products ($10CAN)

My first deal (and best deal in my eyes) was on L’Oreal Ever Strong & Ever Pure hair products.  (L-R) UV Protection Spray, Reconstruct Shampoo, Reconstruct Conditioner, Moisture Leave-in Conditioner, Smoothing Masque & Moisture Masque. I purchased every item they had (which was 6 different items.) It worked out really well because I had 2 coupons that entitled me to $10 off of 3 L’Oreal Ever Strong & Ever Pure products! Lets break it down:

$10 reg. – 50% off = $5 (each)

$5 x 6 (items) = $30

$30 – $20 (coupons) = $10!

I got everything in that picture for $10!!!  That is equal to $1.66 PER ITEM! I was SO happy that I had saved my coupons! (I found them originally at Shopper’s Drug Mart– right in front of the L’Oreal hair products- they may still have some) If they don’t, I know there are tons of people on Smart Canucks looking to trade their coupons! You can browse for them here. (Use the search feature to narrow it down!) If you aren’t a member of SC yet please join through my referral here. If you need any help just let me know 🙂

Revlon Kohl Eyeliner (Black Truffle) with Matte Eyeshadow (Vintage Lace) Bonus! ($10CAN)

My next deal was on the Revlon kohl eyeliner with the bonus matte eyeshadow! This was also an extra 50% off the regular price! I ended up paying $5 for both of these items! The eye shadow alone retails for around $8!

I purchased the eyeliner in black truffle which came with vintage lace eyeshadow. There were other colour variations with a navy eyeliner and a brown eyeliner.

L’Oreal Bare Naturale Mineral Eyeshadow 866 (Bare Spice) ($10CAN)

My next deal was this L’Oreal Eyeshadow in Bare Spice (866.) It was priced around $10 regularly, although this is an older product so it was on clearout for abour $3. With an extra 50% off I paid about $1.50 for it! I couldn’t resist it for that price!

Loofah ($1.99CAN)

My next deal wasn’t a “crazy” deal, but it was a good one. I love these loofahs for the shower. They are great for exfoliating prior to shaving/waxing, etc.  They are also great for reducing the appearance of cellulite, they are a natural way to improve circulation, soothe tired aching muscles and relieve tension.

At 50% off, I paid about $1 for this loofah! A great price! (Cheaper than the dollarstore!)

Maybelline Pulse Perfection Mascara 840 (Blackest Black) with Bonus Eyeshadow Duo 15 (Cocoa Delight) ($17.99)

My last deal of the day was on this vibrating Maybelline Mascara that came with a bonus eyeshadow duo! It was regular $17.99 with 50% off. I paid $9 for it! I didn’t have any coupons… HOWEVER I know there were $3 off and $5 off coupons floating around for the mascara! With an extra $5 it would only cost you $4 for both products! Amazing! I am not sure if they are expired or not? Let me know by commenting if you know!

I have never tried a vibrating mascara before and I thought this was the perfect way to try it out. I have heard many cons but also many pros regading the vibration. I know that Lancome also has a vibrating mascara and primer out that I was going to try. I will give the Maybelline one a shot before forking out the $39 dollars for each Lancome product (as they are separate.)

Have you tried the Maybelline or Lancome vibrating mascaras? I know they are old news now. But they are new to my makeup bag! Let me know by commenting below!

All in all, I think I did pretty good on my purchases at The Superstore last weekend! Let’s see how it all added up:

  • L’Oreal Everpure & Everstrong          $10
  • Revlon Eyeliner/Shadow                     $5
  • L’Oreal Bare Naturale Eyeshadow     $1.50
  • Loofah                                                           $1
  • Maybelline Mascara/Shadow              $9

My Total: $26.50

Regular Price: $101

Saved: $75 (approximately)

Sephora Grand Opening- White Oaks Mall

21 May

It’s official! London Ontario (where I live) FINALLY has a Sephora. I will never forget when @WhiteOaksMall tweeted…

I couldn’t believe it! We were finally going to have a Sephora! No more long trips to Toronto!

A few days before the store opened I received a beauty insider e-mail stating that Sephora was giving away a free umbrella with ANY purchase (no minimums!) I definitely was getting my butt in there for the grand opening to score some new swag and an umbrella (that was for sure!) I ended up going with my mom (as we had a hair appointment in the morning and were out that way!) I was hoping there wasn’t a lineup as @WhiteOaksMall sent out a twit pic of the line up earlier on:

Luckily, when we got there we were able to walk right in! It was HEAVEN! Brand spanking new SEPHORA. Man I wanted to buy EVERYTHING. I had picked out a bunch of Make Up Forever eyeshadows and the pallette that come free with 3 shadow purchases… when I came across “Tarte.” Whoever designed the packing needs a big pat on the back. I decided to part with the Make Up Forever shadows and pickup some Tarte makeup (mainly for the cute packaging to be honest!) I wasn’t sure how great it was- although there was an eyeshadow pallette (that looked like a clutch) and I just HAD to have it! It was super cute and it came with a free eyelid primer! Also, I liked the line because it was all natural (which is great!) 98% of their products are formulated without parabens, phthalates, sulfates and synthetic fragrances (just to name a few!)

(All photos below are linked to larger versions)

Their palettes are REFILLABLE! No need to throw it out when you are done! Just buy a new mineral pigment eyeshadow refill! (click on photo to read the colours- named after flowers!)

It comes with a really awesome guide for multiple looks!

I haven’t tried anything yet- i promise I will soon though! I just LOVE it though! I love the line as well! What do you think? Did I mention that I picked it up for under $60CAN and it is over a $200CAN value? Amazing! I love buying value kits!!! This was definitely a purchase where the book was judged by the cover. I am hoping it is a great product! I tried it in the store and it seemed very pigmented. Have you ever tried Tarte products?

Any other lines you buy just for the sheer cuteness?

Oh, I also got the free umbrella (which WASN’T a cheap crappy piece of… you know.) It is SUPER strong (and cute!)

Check out Tarte Cosmetics HERE!

So thanks to my Smart Canuck friends (read about SC here) I have discovered a wonderful world of ELF (Eyes, Lips, Face) makeup that is SUPER affordable to begin with but even more affordable when there are 50% and 60% off discount codes! I was told to try their “studio line” as it is a bit more professional and a better all around product. Most items range from $3-$6 PER ITEM!
